Jacques H. Schalch, age 84, of Cheyenne, Wyoming, died June 11, 2013. He was born on January 3, 1929, in Chicago, Illinois, and retired to Cheyenne in 1996. He grew up in the Pittsburgh, PA area and married Frances J. Murdoch on June 10, 1950. He graduated from Pennsylvania State University with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering. His early work career with Koppers Co./ARCO Chemical Co. spanned 35 years, involving work in Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, and Houston in engineering, maintenance, operations and management. He also helped engineer, build and manage the first petrochemical plant in Argentina. After retiring from ARCO Chemical in 1985, he worked for AES Corp. then a fledgling electric power company, which is now one of the largest global electric companies. He was project manager for design and building power stations in Oklahoma and Maryland and retired in 1996. He was an avid skier and motor home enthusiast, a member of Alpha Chi Sigma professional chemical fraternity, and a member of the Penn State Alumni Association. He is survived by his daughter, Sarah A. Schalch of Cheyenne, son, Thomas H. Schalch of Seward County, NE, a brother, Dr. Don S. Schalch of Middleton, WI, and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Jacques Schalch and Alice Schalch, and his beloved wife, Frances. A private family service will be held at a later date. Cremation is under the direction of Schrader Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the National Parkinsons Foundation.
