James Anderson

April 11, 1926 — April 24, 2014

JAMES (JIM) ANDERSON, of Cheyenne, passed away on April 24, 2014. Jim was born April 11, 1926, in Norfork, West Virginia. He was a resident of Cheyenne for over 60 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army in WWII and Korea. He was an electrician for many years, working on many major projects in Wyoming and other parts of the United States. He was a 32nd-degree mason and a Shriner. However, his real love was that of the American Legion. For years, he was an instructor at the American Legion Boys' State. He was a Past Commander of Legion Post 6, Past State Commander for Wyoming and served as National Vice-commander in 1991-1992. In that later role, he was with the President of the United States in laying the wreath on the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery. Throughout his life, Jim devoted hours of free time on electrical work for the Legion and young groups in the City including the Cheyenne baseball facilities. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Jeannine; sister, Judy Mils of the state of Washington; and nephew, Pat Anderson of Cheyenne. Pat has for several years been a devoted life care person for the Andersons. He was preceded in death by his father, John Anderson; mother, Virginia Anderson; brothers and sisters, John, Paul, Mary, Laura; and his devoted step-mother, Essie. Cremation has occurred. A memorial service will be held at the American Legion No. 6 on May 10, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. with a ceremony starting at 11:30. Those who wish may contribute to American Legion Boys' State Fund or the Shiners' Hospital. Honorary Pallbearers for Jim are Dave Uchner, Bryan (Alf) Grzorczyk, Herbie Walker, Ross Smith, Skip Arnold, and Tammy Lee.
