James Jackson

August 25, 1954 — October 6, 2013

James "Jim" Jackson, Jr. died October 6, 2013, in Cheyenne. He was born August 25, 1954, in Georgia and was raised a "Navy Brat." He married Tara in 1974. They had five children in California, but after moving around a bit, they settled in Cheyenne in 1987, to raise their family. Jim wanted his children to have a different childhood so he decided to stay in one place; finding Cheyenne to be the perfect town to raise his family. Jim prided himself in being a family man. He taught his children that family always comes first. Jim loved sports, especially soccer and baseball. He coached his kids' and grandkids' youth athletic teams and when he wasn't coaching, he was there as their number one fan. He found great joy in coaching his granddaughter's soccer teams throughout her childhood. Jim also umpired baseball for many years. Jim was a happy-go-lucky guy who could talk to anyone. He liked to tell jokes and would strike up a conversation with a complete stranger in a matter of minutes. He loved meeting new people and was always caught bragging about his kids and grandkids. "Papa" will be loved and missed. He is preceded in death by his father, James Lionel Jackson, Sr. Jim is survived by his mother, Helen Jackson; five children, James Jackson III, Laura (Step) Jackson, Maria (Hank) Wisdorf, Jacob (Ashley) Jackson, and Shelly Jackson; nine grandchildren, Carolyn, Trinity, Jimmy, Adiah, Xavier, Alex, Avery, Kaleb, and Liam, and his former wife, Tara Miller. A Celebration of Life will be held 6:00 p.m. Friday in the Schrader Chapel. Cremation will take place by Schrader Funeral Home. In Lieu of flowers, the family requests donations are made to The Jackson Memorial Fund, 1910 Thomes Ave, Cheyenne, WY 82001.
