James McHugh, 83, of Cheyenne passed away on Jan. 10 in Cheyenne. He was born on May 21, 1933 in New York City. He married Joyce A. Monahan on February 11, 1961 in Denver, CO. He served in the US Army during the Vietnam Conflict and later retired from the US Air Force as a Lt. Colonel. After retiring from the Air Force, he was a Logistics Engineer for Martin Marietta and a substitute teacher in the Laramie County School District. He was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels and also read to elementary school children. He was a member of the Warren Air Force Base High Plains Chapel, 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, American Legion Post #6 and Military Officers Association of America. He served as the ESGR (Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve) State Chair, He is survived by his wife, Joyce McHugh of Cheyenne; children, Nancy Breckenridge (Ben Busler) of Scott Air Force Base, Illinois, Scott (Ann-Sofie) McHugh of Commerce City, CO, Patricia (Michael) Armstrong of Anderson, SC, Joanne (Dennis) Pratt of Oak Point, TX and Brian (Frances) McHugh of Glen Burnie, MD; grandchildren, Lauren, Alex, Andreas, Gunnar, Frida, Drew, Alison and James; great-grandchild, Denali; sister, Mary (Robert) Mensing of New York and a son-in-law, Bill Breckenridge. He was preceded in death by his parents, Philip and Mary Angelina (Lorenzi) McHugh and brother, Arthur McHugh. Those who wish may contribute to Meals on Wheels. Services will be 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, at the High Plains Chapel on F.E. Warren Air Force Base. Interment of his urn will follow at the base cemetery. Those without a military identification will be required to obtain a pass at the entrance. Services are under the care of Schrader, Aragon and Jacoby Funeral Home.
