James Raymond Schumacher, 84, of Cheyenne, Wyoming, passed away February 4, 2020.
James was born in Roscoe, South Dakota on September 18, 1935. He grew up in Edgemont, South Dakota, received a teaching degree from Black Hills Teachers College, and a doctorate in education from the University of Wyoming. He married Margaret L'Eveque on July 27, 1962 in Cheyenne, where they made their home. James worked for Laramie County School District #1 as a teacher and principal and served in the US Army Reserves. He was a dedicated member of the Holy Trinity choir and St. Mary’s Cathedral choir.
A man of deep faith and commitment, James was devoted to family and church. Always pragmatic, he ensured his family received the education he worked so tirelessly to attain himself. He enjoyed witty debate and conversation with friends. His professional life as an educator touched countless lives of children and families. He and Margaret passed on a lasting love of music, history, and education to their children.
James is preceded in death by his wife, Margaret. He is survived by his children, James Schumacher, Mary (Rick) Schumacher-Hoerner, John (Karen) Schumacher, William (Rosita) Schumacher, and Daniel Schumacher; and six grandchildren.
A Vigil for the Deceased will be held on Friday, February 7, 2020 at 6:30 p.m. at St. Mary’s Cathedral. A Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated on Saturday, February 8th at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Cathedral with interment to follow at Olivet Cemetery.
