James W. Woodman, 74, of Cheyenne died Sept. 25 at Davis Hospice in Cheyenne. He was born May 14, 1940. A Denver native, he graduated from North High School, where he was active in choir and concert band. He spent summers with cousins in Boulder Canyon in Colorado and was active in Civil Air Patrol. A class piano specialist, he earned a Bachelor of Music Education degree from the University of Colorado in Boulder, Colo., and a Master of Music Literature degree from the University of Wyoming. For many years, Jim taught the adult piano lessons at Laramie County Community College and in Project MUSE on the MUSE bus, and the elementary vocal program for Laramie County School District 1. He taught piano in a home studio for several years and remained an active supporter of music study all his life. He was a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church, the Capital Chorale and Phi Mu Alpha music fraternity. He was active in the Cheyenne Classroom Teachers Association. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Lucy; daughter, Claudia Woodman of Denver; son, Jeff (Lisa) of Santa Fe, N.M.; son, Andrew (Misty) of Cheyenne; granddaughter, Mercedes Krospic; and grandsons, Clayton Krospic, Andrew James Woodman and Sebastian "Bobby" Woodman, all of Cheyenne. A prompt "green" burial was held. His family will hold a memorial service at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, with an informal reception to follow in the Parish Hall.
