James "J.D." Ward

Mr. James "J.D." Ward, 80, of Cheyenne, Wyoming, passed away peacefully at his home Friday evening, May 16, 2014. Mr. Ward was born October 12, 1933, in Scottsbluff, Nebraska, a son of the late James A. and Nellie V. (Hodges) Ward. J.D. grew up and received some early school in Nebraska. He moved with his family to LaGrange, Wyoming, in 1947 and graduated in 1953 from the LaGrange High school. He attended LCCC for two years receiving an Associate Degree in Management. He attended many different schools while in the Army National Guard. He served with the guard for 42 years as a computer programmer. He retired in 1990 and joined his son, Jim Ward, in real estate. He retired from real estate to enjoy family, golf, and more Cheyenne Frontier Days. He was a timer-up at Chute 9 for many years. He started volunteering for CFD in 1974. He was a member of the Masons, Shrine, Consistory, Indians, Jesters, Airport Golf Club, and The First Congregational Church. J.D. is survived by his loving wife, Eileen (Kessler) Ward of Cheyenne; two daughters and son, Margie Demoney (Richard), Peggy Schamel (Roy), Jim Ward (Theresa), all of Cheyenne; five grandchildren, Summer (Tom), Misty, Carter, Kari, and Tyler; and four great-grandchildren, Charlee, Pierse, Hannah, and Austin. Visitation will be held on Monday, May 19, 2014, from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Schrader Funeral Home. A Memory Service will be celebrated on Tuesday, May 20th at 11:00 a.m. at the First Congregational Church with Pastor Kevin Frank officiating. An interment service with military honors will follow at Mountain View Memorial Park Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy in J.D.'s memory may be made to the Old West Museum or the Cheyenne Shrine Club Travel Fund.
