Mr. James "Jim" D. McFarland, 85, of Cheyenne, Wyoming, passed away Sunday, December 25, 2011, at the Cheyenne Regional Medical Center. Mr. McFarland was born June 16, 1926, in Cheyenne, a son of the late John A. and Lucille C. (Phillips) McFarland. Jim attended St. Mary's Catholic School and Cheyenne High School. He enlisted in the United States Navy during World War II, serving on the YMS 38 Minesweeper and in Alaska as a crash crew member. Following his honorable discharge, he worked as a firefighter for the Cheyenne Fire Department for thirty years until his retirement. His interests included water skiing as a young man and later in life he enjoyed traveling with his wife and caring for his home and tending to yard work. He was particularly fond of his pet poodles, Raisin and Mr. D Dog. Jim is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Loretta (Peters) McFarland of Cheyenne; his daughter, Louann Bounds and husband, Gary, of Lawton, OK; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents and a brother, John A. McFarland, Jr. A Vigil for the Deceased will be conducted on Tuesday, December 27, 2011, at 7:00 p.m. at the Schrader Chapel. A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, December 28th at 2:30 p.m. at the Schrader Chapel with Father Rob Spaulding officiating. An interment service with military honors will be held at the Olivet Cemetery with a reception to follow at the Schrader Reception Facility.
