Jeffrey Joel Bastian, 61, of Garland Texas, passed away November 28, 2023. Jeff was born July 21, 1962, in Cheyenne, Wyoming to Theodore Ben and Bonnie Bastian. Jeff grew up on the family farm near Burns, Wyoming. Jeff attended school in Burns, received his bachelor’s degree in public administration from Hastings College in Nebraska and received his master’s degree in political science from the University of Wyoming.
While in college, Jeff worked summers for Frito-Lay in Cheyenne, Wyoming. After graduating from college, he moved to Texas where he worked for the city of Lubbock. He was instrumental in setting up the Emergency Center (911 center) for the City of Lubbock which he modeled after the Garland 911 Center. It was in Lubbock that Jeff met and married Gloria Guzman, his wonderful wife and helpmate for 35 years. Jeff and Gloria moved to Dallas in 1989, when Jeff accepted a job offer from the City of Dallas budget office. Jeff made a difficult decision to transition out of public administration and into Sales. He enjoyed and was successful in sales in three diverse areas, first in gas fleet management as well as credit reporting and most recently completed his sales career in medical sales with Inogen.
Jeff had an incredible sense of humor and easily connected with anyone he met. He enjoyed traveling and was working through visiting all the Presidential Libraries. Jeff loved books and loved to read. Through the years, he built an extensive personal library and was a lifelong learner. He read daily numerous newspapers business journals and completed crossword puzzles. In his very early years, he would sit and be read to as long as someone would read to him. He was reading encyclopedias for fun in t3rd grade.
Jeff and Gloria were blessed with a son, Zachary, in 1991. Zachary married Ariel in 2020. Jeff and Gloria were “over the moon” with the birth of their grandson, Odin Blue in 2021. Jeff adored his family and was thrilled with every minute he shared with his grandson.
Jeff was a loving son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He will be missed by many.
Jeff was proceeded in death by his parents, Ben and Bonnie Bastian, father-in-law, Sabino Guzman, grandparents, and brother-in-law, Glenn Smith.
Jeff is survived by his wife Gloria Bastian of Garland, TX, son, Zachary Bastian, wife Ariel, and grandson Odin Blue Bastion of Princeton, TX, sister, Suzanne Smith of Cheyenne, WY, brother, Ted, and wife, Jeanette of Burns, WY, mother-in-law, Bertha Guzman, brother -in-law’s Sabino Guzman Jr. and wife Melinda, brother-in-law, Carlos Guzman and wife Erica of Fifty Six, AR, Sister-in-law Anita Schnaufer and Husband Brad of Tanglewood, TX., numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, family, and friends.
A Celebration of Life was held in Dallas, TX.
A private family memorial will take place later this summer.
