Jennings Pierce

Mr. Jennings D. "Jay" Pierce, 84, of Cheyenne, Wyoming, passed away Friday afternoon, September 27, 2013, at the Life Care Center of Cheyenne surrounded by his wife and loving family. Mr. Pierce was born December 1, 1928, in Oakland, CA, a son of the late Jesse J. and Anna Ruth (Johnson) Pierce. Following graduation from high school, Jay attended the University of California at Davis and later transferred to and graduated from his beloved University of California at Berkley, where he remained a life-long fan of the Golden Bears. He served honorably in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He worked as a lumber trader for 51 years, and he retired from Teton West Lumber at the age of 73. He will be remembered as a devoted husband, father and grandfather. Jay is survived by his loving wife, Joanne Pierce of Cheyenne; seven children, Jennings D. Pierce, Jr. of Newport Beach, CA, Tracey Manning (Jim) of Corona Del Mar, CA, Scott Plunkett (Joe) of New York, NY, Julie Sarazin (Mike) of Onalaska, WI, Patricia Roloff of Cheyenne, Jennifer Roedel (John) of Cheyenne, and Stephanie Dougherty (Ryan) of Omaha; his brother, Alan Pierce (Lisbeth) of Bothell, WA; and 16 grandchildren. A Vigil for the Deceased will be held on Monday, September 30, 2013, at 7:00 p.m. at the Schrader Chapel. A Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated on Tuesday, October 1st at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Cathedral with Father Carl Gallinger as celebrant. Cremation is under the direction of Schrader Funeral Home.
