Jessie VanZee

Jessie VanZee, 84, passed away October 31, 2015, at Cheyenne Regional Medical Center with her caring and loving family at her side. Jessie was born September 10, 1931, to Frank and Bessie Mitts in Sundance, Wyoming. She was raised and educated in a small country school. While living in Sundance, she worked at the Elkhorn Café and Willey's Food Market. Jessie married William W. "Bill" VanZee on May 10, 1963, in Cheyenne. They made their home in Horse Creek, Wyoming. In 1975, when they moved to Medicine Bow, she worked as a waitress and bar tender at the Dip and the Virginia Café. Jessie and Bill purchased JB Stop and Shop in 1982. She purchased the Old West Bar in 1984. Jessie spent her time crocheting, embroidering, and being involved with her nieces and nephews. She will be remembered by her family and the community of Medicine Bow for her generosity and the importance of caring for her family and friends. Jessie is survived by her brothers, Charles Mitts and Everett (Linda) Mitts; sisters, Louise Griffin, Helen Gail Snell, Atha (Stanley) Hall and Pauline (Elmer) Smith; and many nieces and nephews. Jessie was preceded in death by her husband, Bill; parents, Frank and Bessie Mitts; and siblings, Dale Mitts, Kenneth Mitts and Rosa Mae Carnahan. A graveside service will be held on Friday, November 6, 2015, at 2:00 p.m. at Cheyenne Memorial Gardens with Pastor Roger Rapp officiating. A reception will follow at the Schrader Reception Center. Cremation is under the direction of Schrader, Aragon and Jacoby Funeral Home.
