Jo Ann Adsit Fowler, beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, left this world on December 16, 2024, at Cottonwood Creek Assisted Living in Cheyenne, Wyoming. Born on March 14, 1931, in Columbus, Ohio, Jo Ann was a woman of remarkable spirit and creativity, with a life rich in love and laughter.
Jo Ann graduated from Cheyenne High School in 1948, where she was voted Homecoming Princess and developed a passion for the arts through her performances in Shakespearean plays. Her impeccable skills in typing and shorthand not only served her well as a legal secretary for Tom Carroll, Esq. and Vincent Ross, Esq., but also paved the way for a lengthy career as the program director of KGWN-TV for 27 years. Even in retirement, her commitment to her community shone brightly when she came out of retirement to help initiate the first cable television in Cheyenne.
Deeply rooted in the beauty of Wyoming’s mountains, Jo Ann cherished her time at the family cabin, where her love for nature thrived. She eagerly awaited the return of her husband Jim and sons from their fly fishing contests, captivated by the adventurous tales they shared. Among her hobbies were hiking, oil painting, and playing golf, activities that marked her vibrant personality. She was also a dedicated fan of the Rockies, the Green Bay Packers, and the Wyoming Cowboys, passionately enjoying UW games in Laramie and cheering them on from home.
Jo Ann's zest for life was palpable. She had an infectious sense of humor and was always ready to dance, demonstrating her ability to jitterbug at family gatherings even into Thanksgiving 2024. Music was a significant part of her life; she loved singing from an early age and cherished attending music cruises and outdoor music festivals with her second husband, Ed. Jo Ann brought joy and entertainment wherever she went, famously dancing the "can can" during the Hell on Wheels parade float in the 1960s.
Her home was a hub of warmth and joy, where family and friends could gather, share stories, and celebrate life together. She delighted in the presence of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, attending their concerts, school and sports events, and family weddings, witnessing her family grow with love and joy.
No stranger to adventure, Jo Ann reveled in visiting her grandson's ranch, where she enjoyed riding in a 4-wheeler and witnessing the beauty of newborn foals and calves during the cherished spring branding event. Her affection for her bischon dogs was unyielding, as they accompanied her to the mountains, earning the playful nickname of “bear bait.”
Jo Ann is survived by her loving children, Tim Adsit and Jan Adsit Hurst, along with her treasured grandchildren: Mark Adsit, Weston (Abbie) Hurst, Callie Jo Hurst, Amy Jo (Daniel) Blake, Samantha (Jason) Shepherd, and Charlie Adsit, alongside 15 great-grandchildren and many nieces.
She was preceded in death by her loving parents, Martha and Oakey Adkins; her husbands, Jim Adsit and Ed Fowler; special friend Jim Petry; sisters Geraldine Morse, Kathleen McKay, and Jacqueline Corklin; brother Fred Adkins; daughter-in-law Peg Adsit; granddaughter Amanda Adsit Pierce; niece Janet Corklin Ford; and son Wyn Adsit.
In closing, Jo Ann leaves behind a legacy of laughter, love, and cherished memories. As she often said, “Life is good. Let’s make today VERY GOOD.” Her family expresses heartfelt gratitude to the incredible staff at Cottonwood Creek Assisted Living and Eden Hospice for their compassionate care during this chapter of her life. While there will be no formal services to remember her, the love she shared will echo in the hearts of all those who were fortunate enough to have known her.
