Jo Henning

Jo Henning, 85, (née Beverly Jo Widener) of Granite Canon, WY, slipped from this life in the early morning hours of September 9, 2015. The previous day, several long-time friends had come to the lovely log home, hand-built by Jo and Keith Henning, her beloved husband of 60 years, to say goodbye. With April Henning Mordahl, Jo's daughter and loving caregiver, they shared stories and a meal as they lifted glasses to toast the life of a wonderful friend and neighbor. Later that evening as April readied her mother for bed, she embraced her gently, reminiscing about the snow ice cream her mom had taught her, and little brother, Chris, to make in the shining days of winter. Then she kissed her mother goodnight for what would be the last time. Born February 16, 1930, in Alamosa, Colorado, Jo made Cheyenne her home in 1939. In 1949, Jo married her high school sweetheart, Keith Henning, of Cheyenne. For many years she managed the office of a Cheyenne physician while Keith followed a career as a firefighter and union leader. During these years, they raised 2 children, April and Christopher. Following early retirement, Jo and Keith built the home in the country that became everyone's favorite gathering place. Their home was full of life and love - just like Jo. Jo was smart and funny, elegant and beautiful, and more fun than any ten barrels of monkeys. Jo is preceded in death by parents, Beverly Osman and Norman Widener; brothers, Don and Phillip; son, Christopher Henning; and husband, Keith Henning. Jo is survived by sister, Lana Flatau; daughter, April Henning Mordahl; grandchildren, Rachel, Ryan and Travis; great-grandchildren, Lili, Landon and Isla; and multitudinous loving nieces, nephews and friends. A memory service will be celebrated on Friday, September 18th at 1:00 p.m. at Lakeview Chapel at Schrader, Aragon and Jacoby Funeral home. Contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
