Joan Katherine (Reed) Dietz, 83, passed away on June 11, 2023, in Cheyenne, Wyoming. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend of many.
Joan was born on August 15, 1939, in Boulder, Colorado, to Voorhees and Marylea Reed. She attended Boulder High School and worked in various jobs in the Boulder area following her graduation in 1957. She married Myron Dietz on February 5, 1961, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Boulder. Their children, Steven and Cheryl, were born in Boulder. The family later relocated to Hoxie, Kansas, where Myron owned and operated a grocery store and, later, worked as a banker with the First National Bank for more than 30 years.
While in Hoxie, Joan owned and operated Mrs. D's Dress Shoppe and later worked as a legal secretary at the Mike Haas Law Office for 11 years.
On Myron's retirement in 2006, the couple moved to Cheyenne.
Joan will be remembered for her strong faith in Jesus Christ and the many Bible studies in which she participated and led over her life. Her love of Scripture and commitment to serving her Lord during her life had a tremendous impact on many who knew her.
She also loved to play games - you did not want to compete with her in a movie trivia contest - although she famously would have laughing fits that made her somewhat ineffective!
She was a musician, often playing piano for church services and was the first chair violinist for the Boulder High School Orchestra.
She also adored her dogs and never met a furry face that she didn’t love.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents as well as one sister, Susan. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Myron Dietz, of Cheyenne, Wyoming; her children, Steven Dietz (and his wife, Patta) of Prosper, Texas, and Cheryl Dietz of Cheyenne, Wyoming; her grandchildren, Trent Dietz (and his wife, Amanda) of Abilene, Texas, and Garrett Dietz (and his wife, Sarah), of Cheyenne, Wyoming; and her four great-grandchildren, Daniel and Ezra Dietz of Abilene, Texas, and Hazel and Ember Dietz of Cheyenne, Wyoming. Joan is also survived by her sister, Mary Farr, of Greeley, Colorado, as well as nieces and nephews.
The family will hold a private service at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be sent to:
