John Eklund

December 29, 1922 — November 11, 2013

John C. Eklund, Sr., 90, of Albin, Wyoming, passed away early Monday morning, November 11, 2013, at the Cheyenne Healthcare Center. Mr. Eklund was born December 29, 1922, in Pine Bluffs, Wyoming, a son of the late John L. and Doris I. (Ames) Eklund. John graduated from Albin High School in 1941 and began his collegiate studies at the University of Wyoming before enlisting in the United States Army during World War II. Following his honorable discharge, he returned to the University of Wyoming where he met Mildred Kuncheff and they were married in 1948. He graduated in 1949 with a Bachelors Degree and returned to the family homestead to farm and raise his family. He will be remembered for his love and care of family and also for his support in the Albin community. John is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Mildred Eklund of Cheyenne; his daughter, Chris Veurink of Modesto, CA; three sons, John C. Eklund, Jr. and wife, Suzi, of Albin, WY, Barry Eklund and wife, Kim, of Berthoud, CO, and Val Eklund and wife, Sherry, of Albin, WY; 17 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Marjorie Hedquist; and a son-in-law, John Veurink. Visitation will be on Friday, November 15, 2013, from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Schrader Funeral Home. A celebration of John's life will be held Saturday, November 16th at 1:30 p.m. at the Schrader Chapel with Pastor Donald Blomberg officiating. A private interment service with military honors will be held in Beth El Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Schrader Funeral Home, Cheyenne.
