John E Kahler of Cheyenne passed away peacefully in his sleep on Sunday morning June 12 2011 at his home. He was 83 years old. John Elmer Kahler was born on his family's farm in Jasper, MN on November 3rd, 1927, the son of John Lewis Kahler and Ethel Frances (Fields) Kahler. John moved to Cheyenne with his family shortly after his graduation from high school, where he met Bonita Maryann Kasperbauer, his future wife. They were married on August 2, 1950, in her hometown of Manning Iowa. The couple resided in Cheyenne, where they raised their family of five children. After discharge from the Naval Reserve, John became an electrician and was a proud member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 415 for over sixty years. He also was involved in numerous entrepreneurial endeavors, one of which was running their family motel in Cody, WY for over ten years. John, from his earliest days truly loved the outdoors, especially fishing and hunting of all kinds. He was a long standing member of St Mary's Catholic Church. Mister Kahler is survived by his two sons, Craig Kahler and his wife Lynn of Casper, WY, Todd Kahler of Cheyenne, WY; two daughters, Christine Kahler of Riverdale, NY, and Kim Kahler of Phoenix, AZ, nine grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife Bonita; much loved daughter, Lori Lucille Kahler, and two sisters, Dorothy Calaway and Betty Lamb. Vigil and prayer service will be 4:30 p.m., Friday, June 17th at Schrader Funeral Home with Father Steve Titus officiating, followed by a Celebration of John's Life at his home. Funeral Liturgy will be concelebrated 10:00 a.m., Saturday, June 18th at St. Mary's Cathedral with Father Rob Spaulding officiating. Interment will take place in Olivet Cemetery, following the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St Joseph's Children's home P.O. Box 1117, Torrington, WY 82240---or Davis Hospice Center in Cheyenne.
