John Hatanelas

Mr. John G. Hatanelas, 79, of Cheyenne, Wyoming, passed away late Thursday morning, May 3, 2012, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Cheyenne. Mr. Hatanelas was born July 14, 1932, in Cheyenne, a son of the late Gust J. and Eva (Panopoulos) Hatanelas. John served in the United States Navy from 1952 to 1954 during the Korean War. Following his honorable discharge, he worked in Cheyenne as an insurance agent for New York Life for 30 years until his retirement. He was a faithful member of Sts. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church, and his interests included spending time in the mountains at his cabin and snowmobiling with his family members and many friends. John will be remembered as a loving father, grandfather and friend. He is survived by two sons, Gust Hatanelas and wife, Dawn, of Witchita, KS, and Danny Hatanelas and wife, Brenda, of Cheyenne; a sister, Irene Panos of Cheyenne; a brother Danny Hatanelas of Colorado Springs, CO; and four grandchildren, John Hatanelas, Spencer Hatanelas, Skylar Hatanelas and Dylan Hatanelas. John is preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife, Carol (Heuermann) Hatanelas; and two sisters, Doris Kiakakis and Helen Hatanelas. Visitation will be held on Sunday, May 6, 2012, from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Schrader Funeral Home with a Trisagion Service to follow at 4:30 p.m. at the Schrader Chapel. A funeral service will be conducted on Monday, May 7th at 10:00 a.m. at Sts. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church with Father George Gartelos officiating. An interment service will follow at Beth El Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy in John's memory may be made to the Sts. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church, 501 West 27th Street, Cheyenne, WY 82001.
