John Schmitt

Mr. John Richard Schmitt, 49, of Grover, Colorado, passed away early Friday morning, July 22, 2011, at the Davis Hospice Center surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Schmitt was born April 25, 1962, in Rapid City, South Dakota, a son of John E. Schmitt and Diane (Courtney) Smith. John graduated from Adams City High School in Commerce City, CO. He worked for a number of years in oil field construction and later worked as a site safety coordinator for Wanzek Construction that specializes in wind farm construction. His early interest in lapidary resulted in the establishment of his own business cutting and polishing stone, and more recently he was an avid photographer and coin collector. John is survived by his loving wife, Robin (Rees) Schmitt of Grover, CO; a son, John R. Schmitt, Jr. of Ft. Walton Beach, FL; his father, John E. Schmitt of Lakewood, CO; his mother, Diane Smith of Grover, CO; and three sisters, Mary Mosely of Parker, CO, Lori Jackson of Windsor, CO, and Susan Newton of Commerce City, CO. He is preceded in death by his daughter, Courtney Jane Schmitt. A memorial service will be conducted on Saturday, July 30, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. at the Friendship Alliance Church - North Building in Grover with The Reverend Zach Edwards officiating. An interment service will follow at the Grover Cemetery. Cremation is under the direction of Schrader Funeral Home.
