John "Jack" Dallas Sherman, 90, passed away the morning of Friday, October 23 at Davis Hospice in Cheyenne. He is survived by his wife Anna, his son Peter and his wife Amy of New York, his daughter Ceily and her husband John Hyer, and their children Charlie and Gabriela of Denver. Jack was an Army veteran of World War II, a 1950 graduate of Denver University, and a Certified Public Accountant. Born on September 12, 1925 in Hillsdale WY, as the third of five children, Jack was a lifelong resident of Cheyenne. In 1963 he started his own accounting firm (Freeman & Sherman), a business he owned for 18 years before merging with McGladrey. His commitment to the community was further evident in the positions he held on the boards of Memorial Hospital and St. Mary's Church, as well as his 47 year membership in the CFD Heels. As a young man he spent a short time traveling the state and competing in local rodeos with his friend Gus Fleischli, including riding in the bareback bronc competition in the 1947 Cheyenne Frontier Days. He remained involved with CFD for many years after by timing slacks, and later serving as the CFD controller. Known by his friends as a humble and quiet gentlemen, Jack had a passion for golf and business, treating the Wall Street Journal as the final word. But nothing in Jack's life came close to surpassing the love and companionship he shared with his wife Anna Sherman. Anna was truly his world. In line with Jack's wishes, a private funeral mass will be held for the immediate family. Donations would be welcome and can be made to the Wounded Warriors Project in the name of John Sherman.
