Capt. John B. "Jack" Allis, 87, of Cheyenne, Wyoming, passed away Monday morning, December 19, 2016, in Laramie, Wyoming. Jack was born on October 25, 1929, in Springfield, Massachusetts, a son of the late Bert E. and Inez (Richardson) Allis. Jack's education was extensive, earning degrees in physical education from the University of Rhode Island, physical therapy and education from New York University, public health administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and gerontology from Rocky Mountain Gerontology Center from the University of Utah. Jack enlisted in the United States Marine Corps prior to serving in the United States Public Health Service where he retired as a Captain following 22 years of active duty on June 1, 1975. He earned a number of awards and honors including commendations from the United States Public Health Service Hospital and the American Public Health Association, and Meritorious Service Medal from the Surgeon General relating to Chronic Disease Control and Medicare. Jack was very active in numerous organizations including the Military Officers Association, Navy League, Commissioned Officers Association of U.S. Public Health Association, National Association of Uniform Services, Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity, Antique Automobile Club of America, Oak Spokes Club, Life Member of American Physical Therapy Association, Oak Spokes Chapter, and an Elected Fellow of the American Public Health Association. He was also active as a 32nd Degree Mason of St. John's Lodge #1, A.F. & A.M. of Providence, Rhode Island. Jack is survived by his children, Aura Lee Wymore of Cheyenne, and John Fletcher Allis of St. Petersburg, FL. He is preceded in death by two sisters. A memory service with military honors will be celebrated on Thursday, January 5, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. at the Lakeview Chapel at Schrader, Aragon and Jacoby Funeral Home (2222 Russell Avenue). A private interment will be held at a later date at Green Mountain Cemetery in Boulder, Colorado. Cremation is under the care of Schrader, Aragon and Jacoby Funeral Home.
