Joseph Michael French

March 21, 1963 — April 13, 2025

Cheyenne

Joseph Michael French, affectionately known as Mike, was born on March 21, 1963, in Denver, Colorado. He passed away on April 13, 2025, in Cheyenne, Wyoming. Mike's life was a testament to the beauty of kindness, humor, and a genuine zest for life.

As a veteran of the U.S. Army 82nd Airborne Paratrooper, Mike carried the pride of his military service throughout his life, cherishing the camaraderie and experiences it brought him. His heart was as large as his adventurous spirit, always found seeking new ways to innovate, whether it was through “MacGyvering” solutions for everyday problems or creating intricate mazes and puzzles for others to enjoy. He held a deep appreciation for the world of science fiction, constantly mimicking scenes from "Star Wars" and sharing his passion with those around him.

Mike's personality was vibrant and inviting; he was an extravagant storyteller whose heart overflowed with kindness. The "King of dad jokes," his humor was legendary among family and friends, brightening even the dullest of days with laughter. His latest chapter in life saw him saved and baptized, leading him to share the Word of God with anyone willing to listen. This spiritual awakening added depth to an already rich life, enriching the lives of those around him.

His family was the center of his universe. He cherished memories spent teaching his daughters, Jolean Rosas and Jakkie Nelson, how to shoot at what he endearingly called the "Happy Shooting Grounds." He delighted in driving them on culinary adventures to various fast-food restaurants, encouraging them to taste-test fries and chicken nuggets. His love for creating fun experiences extended to sneaking them into the "Hitching Post Inn" to see Michael DeGreve, treating them to Shirley Temples and Roy Rogers, creating memories that would last a lifetime.

Mike reveled in every moment as a grandpa (Ganpa), finding true joy in Hayden and Parker, his grandsons, and Rylene and Zayla, his granddaughters. His pride in their accomplishments and the bond they shared was palpable, each giggle and game adding to the immeasurable love that structured his family life.

In addition to his daughters and grandchildren, Mike is survived by his son-in-law, Steve Nelson; step-son, Steve Bender; sister, Lisa Lofquist; nephews, Zac and Dorian; and his best friend, Sheena Hennig. They all carry forward the warmth, jokes, and love that he generously imparted.

Mike was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Laura Bender; step-daughter, Christina Hern; his mother and father. Though they are no longer with him, their memories will forever remain etched in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

As we remember Joseph Michael French, let us hold tight to the laughter he brought into our lives, the stories he shared, and the immense love he gave so freely. His legacy continues through the lives he touched and the memories created. May he rest in peace, knowing he made the world a brighter place for everyone fortunate enough to cross his path.
