Joseph Pinter

Joseph "Joe" Pinter, 75, of Cheyenne, Wyoming, was born in Rock Springs, Wyoming, on January 13, 1941, the third son of Mary (Klopcic) Pinter and Lawrence Pinter. He was raised in Superior, Wyoming, until age 14. He graduated from Natrona High School in 1959. In 1964, he joined the Wyoming Air National Guard as a loadmaster. He was also a member of the Wyoming National Guard pistol team, trying out for the 1967 Olympics. In 1974, he was commissioned as a 2nd Lt. serving as a disaster preparedness officer. Following his retirement from the Wyoming Air National Guard, he was Liaison Officer for the Air Force Academy and Air Force ROTC. He was a disabled veteran. He married Jean Larrabaster in Rock Springs, March 23, 1968. They had three children, Michael, Gina and Casey. He attended Casper College and the University of Wyoming, graduating in 1971 with a Bachelor's degree. He was employed by Hot Springs County School District #1 in Thermopolis as a 5th and 6th grade teacher. He was also employed by Hot Springs County as the civil defense coordinator. After retiring, he followed Jean's nursing administration career moving to Lander, Star Valley Ranch and Afton. When Jean retired they moved to Cheyenne in November 2011. He was an enthusiastic private pilot owning his own J3 Piper Cub. His professional affiliations include the NEA, WEA, WEMA, AOPA, MOAA, VFW, American Legion Post #6, BPOE #2317 and NRA. Joe passed away August 24th at Davis Hospice Center. A Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated on Monday, October 10, 2016, at 9:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Cathedral in Cheyenne. Military Honors and a reception will follow. He is survived by wife, Jean; children, Michael of Cheyenne, Gina Hood of Kaneohe, Hawaii, and Casey of Honolulu, Hawaii; granddaughter, Malia of Kaneohe, Hawaii; nephew, Bill of Casper, brother-in-law, John M. Larrabaster (Georgia) of Rock Springs; and two nieces. Donation may be made in his honor to Platte Rivers Chapter, Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing, 193 Joyce Street, Cheyenne, WY 82009.
