Joyce Funk

Joyce Elaine Funk, 87, of Cheyenne died November 2, 2016. She was born March 8, 1929, in Aberdeen, SD, to Edward and Emily (Lundman) Samuelson who farmed near Stratford, SD. Joyce attended country school in Rondell Township for seven years before boarding in town while she attended Groton High School in Groton, SD. She graduated with Honors in 1946. She met Gene Funk in 1945 while they were both attending high school. Joyce attended business college in Mitchell, SD, while Gene was in the Army. Joyce and Eugene Jacob Funk were married October 28, 1947, in Groton. Over the years they lived in Groton, Minneapolis, Grand Forks, ND, Fergus Falls, MN, and then Cheyenne. For Joyce, her family was her life. She felt blessed to have three children, four grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and enjoyed spending time with them. Joyce also enjoyed spending time with her friends and she and Gene enjoyed getting together with other couples. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting and cross stitching. She played bridge and liked doing the daily crossword puzzle and Jumble in the newspaper. Joyce's favorite way to travel was in their motor home and she wrote: We finally got into something I really enjoyed. What a way to see so much that is out there... and still be at home. Joyce was a member of the Ladies Circle at both the Federated Church in Fergus Falls and the First Presbyterian Church in Cheyenne. Joyce is survived by her children, David (Mara) Funk of Cheyenne, Michael (Shirley) Funk of Cheyenne, and Barbara (Joseph) Roman of Loveland; grandchildren, Alex Funk, Joel Funk, Carrie (Gentre) Thompson, Chad Funk (Roxanne Schippert); and great grandchildren, Layne Thompson and Elsa Funk. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, November 7, 2016, at Schrader, Aragon & Jacoby Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, November 8, 2016, at the First Presbyterian Church, 220 W 22nd Street, Cheyenne. The family prefers memorial contributions to the local chapter of the Salvation Army, 601 E 20th Street, Cheyenne, WY 82001.
