June Lawton passed away at the age of 89 on Monday, March 25, 2013. She was born June Creole Estes on June 18, 1923, the eleventh child of Benjamin Estes and Lucy Adams Estes on June 18, 1923. Though born in Chandler, Colorado, she had deep roots in southeastern Wyoming. Her father homesteaded near Hillsdale, and later near Rock River, north of Laramie. She was the very personification of "The Greatest Generation." She grew up in the Great Depression, sent her husband to the army during World War Two, was never wealthy, but worked hard and lived by the rules. She married David Lawton at age 18, on August 18, 1941, in Cheyenne Wyoming. When he returned from the army, they began to build a house next to her father's home on East Tenth Street, near Logan Avenue. David Lawton's job with the Union Pacific (and later with Pacific Fruit Express) saw them move frequently, but they returned to Cheyenne in the 1960s. Like many retired people from Wyoming, they spent the summers here, the winters in Arizona. June Lawton was a CNA at the Veteran's Administration facility in Cheyenne. After retirement she and her husband became real estate agents associated with Art LaCroix in Cheyenne. David and June were members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She raised five children in the faith, who join with 29 grandchildren, scores of great-grandchildren and several great-great grandchildren in honoring her memory. David Lawton died in 1988. In 1990 she married Frank Madvid of Edmonton, Canada. Thereafter she spent summers in Edmonton. They enjoyed over twenty years of marriage before he passed away in 2011. Without his loving care she needed to move to Venta Care Centre in Edmonton, where she resided until her death. In addition to her two husbands, all of her brothers and sisters predeceased her. All five children survive her. They are Larry Lawton (Ida Beth) of Thayne, Wyoming; Lyle Lawton (Sherlene) of Grantsville, Utah; L. Estes Lawton (Kathy) of Beaumont, Texas; Laurie Johnson (Henry) of Yuba City California and Leonard Lawton of Glenwood, Iowa. The family is grateful for the assistance of the Schrader Funeral Home for arranging matters. She will be laid to rest next to her husband in Cheyenne, Wyoming on Saturday, March 30, 2013, with Bishop LaMont Muchmore of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints presiding. A viewing will be held at 8:00 AM with the funeral at 9:00 AM at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Four Mile Chepel.
