Junia Jones

May 9, 1923 — January 15, 2013

Junia Moss Jones, 89, passed away on January 15, 2013 in Cheyenne, Wyoming at the Davis Hospice Center. She was born in Marietta, Ohio on May 9, 1923, daughter of the late Dr. Alvin R. Keppel and Mrs. Bernice C. Keppel. She was a graduate of Catawba College (B.A. Magna Cum Lauda) and received a Master's Degree in Elementary Education from Millersville State College. She was an active member of many churches over the years; an elementary school teacher; a loving mother; loved the arts and her stone sculpting; spent a lot of time with friends and family; and was physically active throughout her life, enjoying daily swims and walks on the beach. A strong woman in every sense, Junia cared for her two husbands who both preceded her in death, Dr. Robert V. Moss, Jr. (a Lancaster Seminary President and United Church of Christ President) in 1976 and Dr. Tracey K. Jones, Jr. (a Methodist Minister, missionary, and General Secretary for the Methodist Board of Global Missions) in 2009. She was also preceded in death by her son John "Jack" K. Moss in 2001. At the Montclair First Methodist Church, Junia started and ran a Community Outreach Program. At the Sarasota United Methodist Church she designed a Children's Educational Program called the ARK. While living at Plymouth Harbor in Sarasota, she ran fund-raising events for Habitat for Humanity, was a Hospice Volunteer, started book clubs, and created the Plymouth Harbor Low Vision Resource and Computer Center and Support Group (Junia's proudest accomplishment in retirement). Her last years were spent with family in Cheyenne, Wyoming. Junia is survived by three sons Robert V. Moss, III (and Kathryn Moss), Timothy I. Moss (and Kari Moss), and Tracey Jones III; two daughters Deborah Breitenbach (and John Breitenbach, Jr.) and Judith Jones Watson; nine grandchildren Robert V. Moss, IV, Stacey L. Obrecht (and Matthew Obrecht), Scott Moss, Rebecca Moss, Jane Moss, Melyssa Watson (and Brian O'Donnell), Todd Watson (and Zenab Amin-Watson), Katherine Breitenbach (and Devin Anderson), and John Breitenbach, III; and five great-grandchildren Samuel Obrecht, Kara O'Donnell, Grayson Moss, Evan Obrecht, and Abram Watson. Services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, January 26th, 2013 at Schrader Funeral Home Chapel, 2323 Carey Avenue, Cheyenne, WY 82001. Memorials may be made to the Davis Hospice Center, Cheyenne, WY, or the Lighthouse Program in Sarasota, FL, in loving memory of Junia M. Jones.
