Cheyenne

Kathy Narum, 60, passed peacefully at Davis Hospice in Cheyenne Wyoming after a brief and unexpected battle with pancreatic cancer.

Kathy was born Kathleen Marie Johnson on June 22, 1964 in Bismarck, ND to Archie and Alice (Carlson) Johnson. She grew up there, graduating from Century High School in 1982, and met her best friend and the love of her life, Scott Narum. Kathy and Scott were married March 16, 1985 and soon after moved to Cheyenne Wyoming to follow Scott’s military career. Kathy and Scott proudly welcomed their one and only daughter Nicole Lee Narum on August 19, 1988.

Kathy raised Nikki as a stay at home mother until she was school aged, then dabbled in various occupations including as an associate for a local jeweler, and a position at the Cheyenne Tribune Eagle Newspaper. Ultimately she settled into her career for several decades at Flyte Sanitation, beginning as an administrative assistant and working her way up to a pivotal management and consulting role within the company.

Kathy dedicated her life to her pursuit of learning, serenity, and above all, a good time. She was a self proclaimed know-it-all who dutifully researched every one of her interests. Her mind was a repository of endless facts and her sense of humor was unmatched. She was an avid vacationer. One of her most cherished places in the world was the Cancun and Riviera Maya area of Mexico, where she traveled to dozens of times over the decades with her beloved husband, daughter, and other family members. Her hobbies were vast including gardening, woodworking, rock tumbling, sporty car collecting, and hover board and one wheeling. She was also a wonderful and dedicated dog mom. She was most content in the peace and comfort of her own home.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and her adoring husband Scott. She will be dearly missed by her daughter Nicole (Thomas) Helfrich, granddaughter Lily Helfrich, her fiancé Chris Kemnitz, brother Dan (Sandy) Johnson, brother-in-law Rick Narum, sister-in-law Julie Narum, along with several nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life for Kathy will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please feel free to donate to PanCAN, the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network.
