Kay Allen, of Cheyenne Wyoming passed away unexpectedly on December 15, 2023. She was born Sep 24, 1953 in Deadwood, SD to Jean and Clark Allen and grew up and lived most of her life in Cheyenne. She graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Special Education from the University of Wyoming and achieved a Masters degree in Special Ed from Denver University. Kay had a 39 year teaching career within the Cheyenne school system. She dedicated her career to helping children with special needs and the under privileged. Kay loved working with her students and cared deeply for them.
Growing up Kay had a love of riding horses and raised Suffolk sheep in 4H. She enjoyed traveling throughout the U.S. and Europe. She had a passion for children’s books, a fondness for writing humorous poetry, was known to play a joke or two on friends and never met a book store or gift shop she could pass by.
Kay was very generous and giving of her time; tutoring when needed and volunteering in various organizations. She had many interests and was a member of the Cheyenne kennel club and the Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority.
Kay was a loving daughter and sister and is survived by her brother Steve (Gayle) of Longmont, CO and a large extended family of cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents Jean and Clark Allen.
A celebration of Kay’s life will be held on May 17th, 12:30 pm at St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church in Cheyenne. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to a charity of your choice.
