Larry Frank Mallery, 80, died, March 24, 2023 at home after a courageous battle against life's obstacles finally got the better of him.
He was born to Angela and Raymond Mallery in Susanville, CA. He spent his first 17 years on the family farm and attended Richmond Grammar School in a one room schoolhouse that taught 1st through 8th grade and graduated from Lassen Union High School in 1960. He married his high school sweetheart, Elizabeth Methvin, on 2 August 1960 and after a brief honeymoon entered the Air Force where he spent a 21 year career which brought he and his family to Cheyenne, WY in 1976. He retired from the Air Force in 1981 and then started a career with the US Postal Service spending 20 years with them before retiring for good in 2005. During his postal career he and his first wife were divorced and on the 1st of May 1997, he was married to Karen M. Garlach of Cheyenne gaining two loving stepchildren, Joseph and Shauna Selfridge plus three step grandchildren, Koby, Kayleen and Samantha.
He and his first wife, Elizabeth had four children together; Lisa Journey of Cheyenne, WY, her three children; Kevin (deceased), Justin (who adds two great grandchildren) Jacob and Lori Mallery of Cheyenne, WY. Lynda Mallery of Chandler, AZ, her wife, Anne Buzard. Larry Jr. of Coppell, TX, his wife, Lynn Marie, and their children, Alexis and Nona.
Larry was in active volunteer for the Cheyenne Botanic Gardens for many years, a driver for Meals on Wheels with his wife as director and navigator and a volunteer at Habitat for Humanity as a handyman.
Larry loved any type of yard work he could do and planted gardens and flowers wherever space was available. He also loved to fish and play golf and never got enough time to do any of them.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Karen, his mother Angela and Father Raymond and both sets of Grandparents, a younger Brother, Patrick, an older Brother Raymond, a Grandson, Kevin, as well as Aunts and Uncles too numerous to mention.
He is survived by his sister, Norma Martin, of Greeley, CO and a twin Brother, Gary, of Radford, VA.
In honor of Karen and Larry Mallery of Cheyenne, Wyoming, family and friends are invited to join us for an informal joint Celebration of Life at the Cheyenne Botanic Gardens on May 27, 2023, from 2:00pm to 5:00pm in the Orangerie Room. Please feel free to drop in, share your memories (exaggerated fishing and gardening stories welcome), and enjoy the camaraderie of others who love them. There will be light snacks, beverages, and the opportunity to enjoy the beautiful Cheyenne Botanic Gardens. Knowing how much the Cheyenne Botanic Gardens meant to Karen and Larry, their families have dedicated two new trees in their honor.
