Leona M. Morford, 83, of Cheyenne died October 7, 2012 at Kindred Transitional Care. She was born February 19, 1929 in Cheyenne to Oliver and Helen Lee. She married Harold. R. Morford on February 16, 1947 in Cheyenne. She was a homemaker and a member of the Baptist Church. Leona loved children, not only her own but all children. She loved her family, and her life was a clear reflection of that. Her family was in fact her life. She was a superb cook and had an almost mystical touch as a gardener. She was able to fill a sparse plot of soil, as well as an empty plate, with apparent ease. Her work day was always long, its tasks many, mundane and, too often, overlooked by everyone. Yet she seldom complained. That she was no stranger to pain is known, but this too she bore with much the same grace. Anymore, it seems expected, even cliche, to characterize one as a devoted spouse and parent. But it is no less true of Leona. If a life were measured by the depth of these qualities, she would be found a paragon. But we have lost more than a wife and mother with her. She was creative and adept with many things. More than that, however, she was wise, and generous to a fault. Many of her talents and ambitions she chose to lay aside because she was, by nature, a giver. We can hope and believe that she now lives on, whole, and in a place of endless peace; yet we can only be certain of this: She will be dearly missed by everyone who really knew her. She is survived by her husband, Harold R. Morford of Cheyenne; children, Harold Morford of Phoenix, AZ, Susan Porras of Phoenix, AZ, Bruce Morford of Cheyenne and Rodney Morford of Cheyenne; siblings Patricia Elkins of Cheyenne and Jimmy Lee of Cheyenne; seven grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Donald Lee. Visitation will be Thursday 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Schrader Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday in the Schrader Chapel with Pastor Max Janzen officiating. Interment will follow in Lakeview Cemetery. Those who wish may contribute to the Alzheimer's Association. Services are under the care of Schrader Funeral Home.
