Les D. Smith, 56 of Burns, died March 25 at his home. He was born September 11, 1958 in Cheyenne, to Charles and Lena Jane Smith. He spent his early years in Carpenter and then moved to Burns where he graduated from high school in 1976. Les graduated from the University of Wyoming with an agriculture business degree. He was a lifelong Laramie County resident. At a early age Les developed a love for farming and agriculture and spent his livelihood in this field. He was an agriculture entrepreneur and devoted much of his time to helping and assisting area farmers. He was well known and loved by his family and many friends with his ability to tell a good story and give everyone a good chuckle. Les had an infectious laugh that will be missed. He also had a knack for storing sports statistics in his memory and would be able to pull information at any time about his favorite teams. A lifelong Wyoming Cowboy fan, he attended the games in Laramie for many years. Les also had a love for high school basketball and very much enjoyed going to games and tournaments. Les is survived by his son, Daniel (Kari) Smith, and granddaughter Anna from Gardner, Kansas; brother, Leo (Janet)Smith of Carpenter, and a sister, Judy (Mark)Anderson from Burns, along with many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father Charles, mother Lena Jane, step mother Marjorie Smith, sister Lynn Cowley and brother Glenn Smith. A service in remembrance of Les will be held at Schrader Funeral Home on Friday, April 3 at 2:00 p.m. followed by a reception in the Schrader Reception Center.. Those who wish may contribute to the Cheyenne Animal Shelter in lieu of flowers.
