Lonnie Chavez

May 29, 2023, Lonnie Keith Chávez, 57, of Cheyenne, WY, our loving son, brother, uncle, stepfather, cousin and friend passed away peacefully at Poudre Valley Hospital in Fort Collins, CO. 

Lonnie and the love of his life, Roberta, were married on May 20, 2005.  They enjoyed many happy years together.  They each felt the other was the best part of their lives.

Lonnie was the third of seven children; he was a successful general contractor and was previously a real estate broker in Denver, CO.  He not only received a degree from ITT Technical Institute, he also finished his Master’s degree a couple years ago. 

Lonnie always had a joke to tell or a way to make you laugh. His laugh was contagious, and he lit up the room when he entered.  He took care of everyone he met to the best of his ability; he would take care of you before he would take care of himself.  He was very selfless and the most caring person. He had nicknames for everyone he met. He loved to be around family, laughing, joking and telling stories. He loved his time he got with his nieces and nephews getting to make memories.

Lonnie was quick to make a friend and these friendships often spanned several years. Everyone that came into his life felt it was better because he was in it.

He is survived by his mother, Naomi Chávez, his stepchildren, Raymond “Corky” Girten, Rosanna Girten, Eduardo Garcia, his two grandchildren, Abeni and Layne, his brothers and sisters, Sheryl Chávez Munoz (Carl Munoz), William Chávez, Jr (Rebekah Chávez), Brian Chávez, Darlis Clark (Josiah Clark Sr), Cynthia Chávez-Simon, Eric Chávez, many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and his pets, MoneyPenny and Charlie.

Lonnie is preceded in death by his wife, Roberta Rae Chávez, his father, William Roy Chávez, Sr. and his nephews, Steven Michael McDonald and Matthew David Penny.

A memorial service will be held at Schrader, Aragon & Jacoby Funeral Home on June 24, 2023, at 1:00 pm, a reception will follow at LCCC Pathfinder Room.
