Louisa Babbitt, 88, of Cheyenne, Wyoming, passed away Monday evening, June 10, 2013, at Life Care Center of Cheyenne. Louisa was born September 8, 1924, on the ranch her grandparents, Henry and Bertha Miller, homesteaded in the 1880's. Louisa graduated from Cheyenne High School in 1942. In September 1942, she married Cheyenne native Carl T. "Short" Babbitt. Their marriage lasted 47 years. In February 1956, Louisa took a position as bookkeeper in the trust department of Stockgrowers Bank. She held numerous positions in the bank's trust department for the next 30 years during which time she completed several American Institute of Banking courses in the field of trust operations. In the early 1980s, Louisa studied for and passed the NASD registered representative securities exam. In 1981, the bank's board of directors appointed her to the position of trust officer, making her the first female to serve as a bank trust officer in the State of Wyoming. She retired from First National Bank and Trust Company of Wyoming in 1986. Louisa was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Cheyenne. She served as the first church secretary and worked for The Reverend H.W. Nierman. She was active in many organizations within the church. She was a member of Quota Club, a national professional businesswomen's organization. She was preceded in death by her son, Gary in 1956; her husband, Carl, in 1989; as well as her parents, Anna Miller Martin and Rudolph T. Martin, all of Cheyenne. She is survived by her brother, Dale Martin and wife, Sally ,of Cheyenne, her sister-in-law ,Bonnie Babbitt Wunch and husband, Tony, of Arvada, CO; and one very close friend, Carol Johnson of Watertown, SD. Visitation will be held on Monday, June 17, 2013, from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Schrader Funeral Home. A funeral service will be conducted on Tuesday, June 18th at 11:00 a.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church with Pastor Daniel Hinton officiating. An interment service will follow at Cheyenne Memorial Gardens. Louisa requested that memorials be given to the State of Wyoming Services for the Visually Impaired, Hathaway Building, 2300 Capitol Ave., Cheyenne, WY 82002 or Trinity Lutheran Church, 111 East 22nd Street, Cheyenne, WY 82001.
