Mabel Mott

Mabel L. Mott, 94, of Cheyenne, Wyoming, passed away Saturday evening, November 12, 2016, at the Cheyenne Healthcare Center. Mrs. Mott was born on January 1, 1922, in Grand Island, Nebraska, a daughter of the late Carl P. and Alice (Jensen) Wagner. After graduating high school in Cheyenne, she attended beauty school and later co-owned and operated a beauty shop in downtown Cheyenne with her sister. Later, she attended Barns Business School in Denver, and eventually she was recruited as a telegrapher and worked at various Union Pacific Railroad stations in Cheyenne, Laramie, Medicine Bow and Sinclair. After 38 years of faithful service, she retired from Union Pacific Railroad. Mabel was a member of the Union Pacific Old Timers, and she enjoyed volunteerism. She was a former member of Christ Lutheran Church, a current member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, and a lifetime honorary member of the Daughters of the Nile. She loved to travel the United States, and she visited many countries in Europe, Asia and Southeast Asia. She lived the remainder of her life at Whispering Chase and Cheyenne Healthcare Center. Mabel is survived by her nephew, John T. Wallace of San Jose, CA, and her niece, Suzette W. Pope of Mexico Beach, FL. She is preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband, Lewis Mott; her siblings, Harriett Clark and Carl H. Wagner; and a nephew, Philip R. Wallace. A private interment has been held in Beth El Cemetery in Cheyenne. Expressions of sympathy in Mabel's memory may be made to Prevent Child Abuse Wyoming by going to pcawy.org.
