Mabel C. Wilson, 92, of Cheyenne, Wyoming, died November 14, 2016, at home in Cheyenne. She was born May 10, 1924, in Marion, VA. She grew up in Spokane, WA, and graduated from John Rogers High School and Kinmans Business College. She moved to Denver, CO, in 1945, and later moved to Cheyenne in 1951, after her husband, Bill, graduated from Denver University. William G. Wilson and Mabel C. La Plante were married June 12, 1948, at St Paul's Catholic Church in Denver. She retired as a Personnel Officer from Cheyenne VA Medical Center on August 3, 1984, with 32 years of federal service. She also worked for F.E. Warren AFB in Cheyenne, Air Force Finance Center and Fitzsimmons Army Hospital, both in Denver, and Fort Wright Air Base in Spokane. In Cheyenne, she was a member of St. Mary's Cathedral and belonged to many civic organizations, including Women's Civic League, as a life member, and Friendship Force, as an original member since 1978. She also volunteered at Memorial Regional Center. She traveled to Europe (England, Estonia, Holland, Russia, and Sweden), Australia, New Zealand, the Panama Canal, the Caribbean and much of the United States, including Alaska and Hawaii. She was a true bridge player and also belonged to the Cheyenne Airport Golf Club. Mabel and her husband, Bill, spent winters in Arizona after his retirement in 1986. He passed away November 8, 1996. Also deceased are her parents, Allie and Louise La Plante; two brothers; and two sisters. Mabel is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Judith and Peeter Mé�hlberg of McLean, VA, and grandchildren Erika Mé�hlberg of Brooklyn, NY, and Madeline Mé�hlberg of Boston, MA; son, Richard B. Wilson and grandchildren Grace, William, Sean, and Henry of Cheyenne; and son and daughter-in-law, Brett W. and Thirza Wilson of New York, NY. Also surviving are brothers, Doug and Ronald La Plante; sisters, Linda Shortell and Diane Hamm; and many nieces and nephews. A Vigil for the Deceased will be held on Tuesday, November 22, 2016, at 7:00 p.m. at St. Mary's Cathedral. A Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated on Wednesday, November 23, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Cathedral. A reception will follow at Little America. She will be missed by family and many friends.
