Marcia Dale

March 4, 1938 — August 18, 2012

Marcia L. Dale passed away on August 18, 2012 at Davis Hospice Center. She was born March 4, 1938, in Ft. Dodge, Iowa, but was brought to the ranch of her grandparents, Russell and Nancy Bradley in Lusk, WY, when she was three weeks old. She was the daughter of William R. and Erma L. Bradley. Both parents and a sister, Janet L. Laughlin preceded Marcia in death. Survivors include her husband, William G. Dale, a daughter Dori L. Hauser (Jeffrey), of Denver, CO, and a son, Devin G. Dale, of Phoenix, AZ. Five grandchildren gave Marcia great pleasure. Marcia graduated from Cheyenne High School, the University of Wyoming with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing; the University of Washington with a Master's of Nursing, and the University of Northern Colorado, where she earned a doctorate in education. She worked her way up from an instructor at the University of Wyoming to being the Dean of the School of Nursing. She retired in 2003 after commuting to Laramie from Cheyenne for forty years. She served as president of the Wyoming State Board of Nursing, the Wyoming Nurses Association, Nurse Educators of Wyoming, and the Wyoming League for Nursing. She was a Fellow in the American Academy of Nursing. She received the Distinguished Alumni Award of the School of Nursing, the College of Health Sciences, the University of Wyoming, the Award for Leadership in Education of Sigma Theta Tau, the Wyoming Nurses Association Leadership in Nursing Award and Search for Excellence Award, and was given a presidential citation of the American Psychological Association, and was a Women of Distinction nominee for the Wyoming council on Women's Issues. Bill and Marcia were avid travelers and fans of football and basketball. They were members of First United Methodist Church. After retirement, Marcia enjoyed water exercise, volunteering at the Laramie County Library, and writing about the first fifty years of the School of Nursing. She was a board member for the Cheyenne Community Clinic and was appointed to the Council for Aging. Cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be held at First United Methodist Church, 108 East 18th Street, on Monday at 10 a.m. with Rev. Elizabeth McVicker officiating. Interment of urn will be in Lakeview Cemetery. Honorary escort representatives are from the University of Wyoming School of Nursing, the Mermaids and the Cowgirls of the West. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Marcia L. and William G. Dale Nursing Scholarship at the School of Nursing, University of Wyoming Foundation, 1200 East Ivinson Street, Laramie, WY 82070-4159. Arrangements are under the direction of Schrader Funeral Home.
