Margaret Bourn

September 24, 1926 — March 26, 2012

Margaret (Buckbee) Bourn passed away peacefully Monday, March 26, 2012, at the Davis Hospice Center in Cheyenne. Margaret was born September 24, 1926, in Blanchard, Oklahoma, one of two children of Walter and Margaret Buckbee. She married Byron Bourn on May 27, 1950, in Kansas City, Missouri. Margaret had an incredible career, working for Trans World Airlines, ad sharing in retail and wholesale businesses with her husband. Upon his passing in 1966, and while raising her daughter, Lynn, she went to the University of Northern Colorado (then Colorado Teacher's College) and received her degree in elementary education. She taught school in Longmont, Colorado, for more than 20 years. Upon her retirement from education, Margaret moved to Cheyenne in 1990 to be closer to her grandchildren. She was a tireless volunteer, amassing more than 9,000 hours for the Cheyenne Regional Medical Center alone. Margaret also volunteered at the Cheyenne Frontier Days Old West Museum and Susan G. Komen Relay for Life. She served as the treasurer and business manager for the Atrium Townhomes. Margaret loved to travel, and doted on her three grandchildren. She was a strong-minded, independent soul, and imparted her own courage on those closest to her. She was a two-time cancer survivor who enjoyed puzzles, card games, and political banter. She was a valued friend to many, a generous giver of her time and resources. She is survived by her daughter, Lynn Maree Budd and husband, Bob; three grandchildren, Joe, Jake and Maggie Budd; sister-in-law, Juanita Buckbee; niece Nicci Frock and husband, Greg; and great-niece, Erica Frock. She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Margaret Buckbee; her husband , Byron Bourn; and brother, John Buckbee. A memorial service with balloons will be held on Friday, March 30, 2012, at 3:30 p.m. at the Schrader Chapel. Cremation is under the direction of Schrader Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Margaret's name to the Davis Hospice Center, 6000 Sycamore, Cheyenne, WY 82009.
