Margaret (Ludden) Stevens

July 20, 1921 — November 23, 2012

Margaret Ann (Ludden) Stevens died on Friday, November 23, 2012 at Davis Hospice Center, Cheyenne, Wyoming in the company of her family. Margaret, lovingly known to most as "Aunt Margie" was born to Julian and Grace (Lind) Ludden on July 20, 1921 in North Platte, Nebraska. Margie was the youngest of four children and was raised on a farm near Hershey, Nebraska along with her three siblings, a brother, Ralph, and two sisters, Jeanne (Ludden) Hawkins and Josephine "Joey" (Ludden) Mathison. On September 27, 1942 she married Gayle L. Stevens and they made their home in Kearney, Nebraska where they farmed until he was drafted into the US Army Air Corps in January 1943. After an honorable discharge in December 1945, they returned to farming in Kearney until they moved to Longmont, Colorado in 1956. Longmont remained their home until Gayle died in 1972. Margie worked at various jobs during her lifetime, but her most significant position was with Hewlett Packard in Ft. Collins, Colorado where she worked from October 1973 until her retirement in October 1999, managing international accounts. After carpooling for several years between Longmont and Ft. Collins, she relocated to Ft. Collins where she lived until 2002. In February 2002 she moved to Cheyenne, Wyoming to care for her oldest sister and be closer to family. Margie was known and loved by so many because of her kind and caring nature, her wonderful sense of humor, her zest for life, her fierce independence, uncommon inner strength, and her genuine concern for so many people. She was a hostess extraordinaire, and her love of cooking and talent for entertaining naturally opened her home to family and friends as a welcome haven until she was well into her late eighties. Margie was a seasoned traveler who loved to dance, listen to music of the 1940's era, play golf, garden and spend her time with family and friends. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Margie is survived by numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, great, great nieces and nephews, and cousins. Internment will be in North Platte, Nebraska and a memorial service will be scheduled at a later date. Those wishing to make contributions in her memory may do so to Davis Hospice Center.
