Marion Lucile Lathrop, 97, of Cheyenne, Wyoming, passed away Friday October 27, 2017, at the Life Care Center of Cheyenne surrounded by her loving family. Lucile was born February 12, 1920, in Humboldt, Nebraska the daughter of the late Carl and Gertrude (Schuetz) Sandfort. Lucile married Dixwell Albert Lathrop of Inland, Nebraska on January 13, 1946 one week after he returned from the European theater during WWII. She was a school teacher for almost 50 years teaching in Kenesaw, Nelson, Sutton, Table Rock, Hyannis, Valentine and Ogallala. Lucile was a member of First United Methodist Church in Kearney, Nebraska, and volunteered at the Museum of Nebraska Art in Kearney. Throughout her life music was her passion - piano, violin and voice and for many years functioned as the music teacher in the different schools where she taught. She served 74 years as church choir member, accompanist and director in the Methodist churches the family attended over the years. Lucile is survived by her sons, Craig (Donna) of Highlands Ranch, CO, and Brent (Denise) of Cheyenne, WY; daughter, Lu Ann Ahrens (John) of Beaumont, CA; seven grandchildren, Kolby, K. C., Eric Lathrop, Sara Snelling Anne Christensen, John and Laura Ahrens; and eleven great-grandchildren, Kaden, Konor, Kaleb Craig, Tian Marie and Hayes Lathrop, Nathan and Oliver Snelling, Ava Lathrop, Aleah Dunn, Amelie and Elise Christensen. She is preceded in death by her husband of 37 years, Dixwell Lathrop on August 17. 1983; and sisters, Dorothy Sandfort, Ethel (Don) Johnson and Marjorie (Jim) Luce. An inurnment service was held at Ft. McPherson National Cemetery, Maxwell, Nebraska on the November 1, 2017. Cremation is under the care of Schrader, Aragon and Jacoby Funeral Home.
