Well, Marjorie Woods is off to the next adventure. Marj was born January 7, 1928, in Omaha Nebraska. She passed away on Tuesday, May 3, 2011, at the Cheyenne Regional Medical Center. Marj spent a lot of time enjoying beauty, helping people, and having a great life in Wyoming. She raised two wonderful children, Alan and Jane, and she cherished her granddaughters, Sage and Rayne. She enjoyed spoiling her giant poodle, Kohl, and also enjoyed the company of her son-in-law, Joe Betts. Marj began her life-long interest in service to others as a teen in Ogallala, Nebraska. Like scores of others during World War II, she helped make meals and served them to the soldiers in the troop trains when they stopped at the now famous, North Platte Canteen. She was instrumental in starting programs for the mentally disabled in Casper, and she worked for the State Commission on Aging. She volunteered countless hours for community programs throughout the state, especially in Casper, Buffalo, Riverton, and Cheyenne. She also was an active volunteer for such organizations as the State History Museum, therapy dogs, the symphony, Celebrate Pink, Zonta, and the Wyoming Guardianship Corporation. In addition to those mentioned above, she is survived by her sister, Janet; and her brother, Richard and his wife, Kitty, all of Nevada. At her request, no services will be held. Cremation is under the direction of Schrader Funeral Home. If you wish to show appreciation for her, please send a donation in her name to the Creative Arts Program at the Ark Regional Services in Laramie, the Wyoming Guardianship Corporation, Cheyenne, the Davis Hospice Center, Cheyenne, or a charity of your choice. She probably spent some time in connection with it in her busy life! Also, consider raising a toast to a really fine woman.
