Marlene Moxley

March 5, 1944 — February 8, 2012

Marlene K. Moxley lost her long battle with cancer on February 8, 2012. She passed away at home, in the loving arms of her husband, daughters, and granddaughters. Marlene's life began on March 5, 1944, in Cheyenne. Her mother, June Juschka of Cheyenne, had been married to Joseph Carlow, an Army paratrooper who died in combat in the European Theater of WWII, without ever seeing his infant daughter. Marlene's mother remarried Elmer Juschka, of Wheatland, who adopted Marlene and was the only father Marlene knew. Marlene was an enrolled member of the Shoshoni Tribe. Marlene grew up in Chugwater, Wheatland, and Cheyenne, and lived for the last 41 years of her life on the Merna ranch, which has been in her mother's family since the 1920's, south of Cheyenne. Marlene worked for several Cheyenne businesses, and worked in banking for years. Marlene was married to Robert Moxley in August of 2001, and from 2006 until her death she was the office manager for her husband's law practice. Marlene was an avid golfer, and a member of the Cheyenne Airport Golf Club, where she loved to compete in tournaments and the ladies leagues. Marlene and Robert played and won several times in numerous couples golf tournaments, in Cheyenne, as well as Douglas, Wyoming, and Farmington, New Mexico. They went on a golf honeymoon, and took golf vacations to Hawaii and Arizona. During the 1980's and 90's Marlene showed paint horses and was active in the American Paint Horse Association, serving as a State Director to the APHA, and on the board of the Wyoming Paint Horse Club. Marlene showed Senorita Sullivan, her Grand Champion paint horse mare, throughout Wyoming and Colorado. A beloved wife, sister, mother, aunt, grandmother and great-grandmother, Marlene was very proud of her daughters, Bobbie Frank and husband, Dan, of Cheyenne, and Shannon Abbott of Wellington, Colorado. She loved and was proud of her grandchildren, Maggie Abbott, Danielle Abbott and Libby Abbott, Megan Hallwachs, Bailey Hallwachs, and Shade Frank. Marlene also doted on her great-grandson, Carter Hallwachs. Marlene's father, Elmer, passed away in 1996. Marlene is survived by her husband, Robert; her mother, June; her brother, Richard Juschka and wife, Penny, of Cheyenne, and their daughters, Michelle, Becky, and Jamie; and great nieces. Marlene is also survived by Rachel Moxley and Robin Moxley of Laramie, daughters for whom Marlene was also guardian. She is also survived by a son, Chuck Sharp, and by two devoted border collies, Deets and Mazie. A memorial service will be conducted on Sunday, February 12, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. at the Schrader Chapel. An interment service will be held at Lakeview Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Cremation is under the direction of Schrader Funeral Home. The family suggests that contributions in Marlene's memory be made to the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund, 14 Pennsylvania Plaza, Suite 1400, New York, New York 10122.
