Marvin Armstrong

Marvin P. Armstrong, 69, of Cheyenne, Wyoming passed away May 27, 2019 at his daughter's home in Salt Lake City, Utah. On January 18, 1950 in Houston, Texas, Earnestine and Hodgie B. Armstrong welcomed a handsome baby boy into the world, naming him Marvin Phillip Armstrong. He would be the fourth child of his nine siblings. Marvin grew up in the Sunnyside area of Houston, Texas. He attended J.R. Reynolds Elementary School, Carter G. Woodson Jr. High School and E.E. Worthing High School where he was a member of the ROTC, preparing him for the Air Force following his graduation in 1970. He worked at the neighborhood grocery store from the age of 14 until the age of 18 to support his love of music and clothes. On April 23, 1976, Marvin married his eternal soulmate, Roxanna Armstrong. In March of 1982, he was reassigned from the 88th Missile Security Squadron in Cheyenne to the 1776th Security Police Squadron (MAC) on Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland. During his time on AAFB, he was responsible for the safety of the President, Vice President, The Cabinet, members of Congress and other national and international dignitaries by providing security for Air Force One and Air Force Two. His other duties included special mission aircraft security, flight line patrolman, entry controller, and securing mobile sentry observation booths. On May 28, 1984, Marvin laid to rest an unknown American soldier who had died in the Vietnam conflict. In 1987, the 1776th Squadron was awarded Outstanding Security Police Squadron Large Unit Category. Marvin was singled out for his significant contributions, superior dedication and motivation and awarded the First Leave Oak Cluster. As a father, he was everything a child could ask for. He did everything he could from fishing to shoulder rides, the occasional being thrown into the air and caught, guess what tune he would whistle (and man was he a good whistler), dancing, music and always and forever, laughter. He cared for his family with all of his heart. Our home was always filled with complete unconditional love. Our parents always made sure we were happy, healthy and wise. On July 31, 1991, Technical Sergeant Marvin Armstrong retired from the Air Force and moved back to Cheyenne. He worked for and helped build Pay-n-Pak, He was a kitchen bathroom specialist for Earnest, and he retired from North Park Transportation in 2014. He enjoyed his retirement spending time with family, going on road trips and doing the things he always wanted to do at his own pace. Marvin is preceded in death by his wife, Roxanna Armstrong; mother, Earnestine Armstrong; father, Hodgie B. Armstrong; mother-in-law, Lois Hill; sisters, Shirley Ann Green, Lillian Jones and Mary E. Sutton; sister-in-law, Barbara Petrie; brothers, Dexter K. Armstrong, Lloyd E. Armstrong and Vern Hill; nephews, Ronald L. Armstrong and Jeremiah Decker; and one grandchild. Marvin memories will be left and cherished by his children Amanda (Todd) Cromwell, Jessica (Tige Campbell) Armstrong and Marvin (Maria) Armstrong, Jr.; grandchildren, Joshua (Shayna) Cromwell, Elizabeth Armstrong, Phillip Armstrong, Devin Cromwell, Marvin Armstrong and Baby Armstrong; brother, Hodgie B. (Bettye) Armstrong, Jr.; sisters, Linda F. Ozoh and Sharon D. Armstrong; in-laws, Duane (Barbara) Petrie, Linda (Chuck) Baker, Robert (Cindy) McDonald, Loretta Hill, Bernice (Tony), Ralph Hill and Vicky Hill; and numerous other nieces, nephews, cousins, family members and friends. We would like to thank the ICU nursing staff at the Cheyenne VA Medical Center and the breathing treatment specialist staff for their sincere care for our father. You were truly his last squadron. A special thank you to all family and friends who prayed, sent healing love and kept our father in your hearts. God bless you all. A memory service will be celebrated on Friday, June 7, 2019 at 1:30 p.m. at the Lakeview Chapel at Schrader, Aragon and Jacoby Funeral Home.
