Mary Sue "Suzy" Ackels, 94, of Cheyenne, Wyoming, passed away Sunday evening, January 18, 2015, in Cheyenne. Mrs. Ackels was born March 22, 1920, in Flint, Michigan. She moved to Bare Oil, Wyoming, in 1921, and then moved to Parco, Wyoming, the following year where her father helped to build the town. She graduated from Rawlins High School in 1938, and she met the love of her life, Quentin Ackels, while working in the Sinclair Post Office when he brought the mail in from Medicine Bow for the Union Pacific Railroad. He finally asked her for a date when she knocked his cap off his head and ask him if he could talk. She and Quentin married March 8, 1940, and moved to Cheyenne. The marriage lasted 68 years before Quentin passed away. Suzy loved ballroom dancing with her husband and the "Pussy Willows", and she was his "Gracie Allen" for all of his jokes. Laughter was everywhere in the room when the group met every weekend for more than 20 years. She was also a life-long member of the Order of Eastern Star. Suzy is survived by her children, Diana Oliger of Cheyenne, Gary Ackels of Cheyenne, and Kim Mikolajczyk of Council Bluffs, IA; grandchildren, Michelle DeHerrera (Max) of Cheyenne, Brent Schropp (Jill) of Seattle, WA, Adam Ackels of Cheyenne, Yvonne Adekale (Ted) of Cheyenne, Loren Ackels (Jessica) of Cheyenne, and Danny and Tammy Mikolajczyk of Omaha, NE; great-grandchildren, Heather and Whitney Morris, Tyler and Andrew Schropp, and Aiden and Marquis Adekale; and sister, Norma Evans of Wellington, CO. She is preceded in death by her parents, Dick and Gladys Henry; and her brothers, Leonard and Tom Henry. Private family services will be held at a later date. Donations may be made in Suzy's memory to the Salvation Army.
