Mary Satchell

Mary Emagene (Workman) Satchell, 83, joined the love of her life on August 9, 2013, for their next big adventure. Emagene was born April 10, 1930, to Ora and Pearl Workman in Cheyenne, Wyoming. A popular, striking blond, Emagene was elected homecoming queen of her Cheyenne High School class of 1948. Following a whirlwind courtship by Roy Satchell, recently discharged from the army, she eloped with and married him in Fort Collins, Colorado, on August 27, 1949. What followed were 60 years of partnership in a marriage and life that must have seemed charmed at times. She and her family of five children lived in twenty cities in a dozen states and one foreign country. She saw the world with Roy on his business trips and vacations, and loved to travel. She learned to play tennis and golf and enjoyed playing with Roy and their many life-long friends. She was involved in the church and taught Sunday school when her children were young. In her later years, she became a voracious reader and especially enjoyed books on history and historical fiction. But her strongest devotion was always to her family and she was happiest with her children and husband around her. On the occasion of their 57th wedding anniversary, Roy wrote to her: "The best part of me owes to you...and when our days on earth are through, in heaven too, I'll give you my hand." In 2009, Roy preceded Emagene on their new journey - leading the way as usual. Emagene leaves behind five children, Dan, Sam, Jill, John, and Heather; six grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and cat, Kitty. She was an only child. A funeral service will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday August 17, 2013, at the Schrader Chapel with an interment service to follow at Cheyenne Memorial Gardens. Her children request that, in lieu of flowers, donations be sent in memory of Mary Satchell to Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E. Flower Street, Phoenix, AZ 85014. Phone number is 602-287-7000.
