Mary Virginia Winter passed away at Davis Hospice Center on April 10, 2017. She moved to Cheyenne 5 years ago to be near family but was a long time resident of Dodge City, Kansas. Mary Virginia was born September 27, 1922 to Lott and Maude Gean. She spent her youth in Dodge City attending Dodge City Community College where she met the love of her life, John Winter, a football player from Arkansas. She became a teacher during WWII, starting in a one room school house teaching 42 children in 5 & 6th grade. She eventually got her master degree and became a reading teacher. She touched the lives of many grateful children through her career. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She made friends wherever she went, and was very generous and kind to those who needed her. Her strong faith and love of people guided her whole life. She is survived by John Eric Winter (Pam) and James G. Winter (Diana), a sister Patricia Ann, 6 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. They brought her great joy. Mary Virginia was a talented writer and left many stories for her family to enjoy. She was respected personally and professionally by everyone she knew. She was an exceptional women and loved by many. A celebration of her beautiful life will be held in Dodge City, Ks.
