Matthew Smith

Matthew Scott Smith, 36, of Brighton, Colorado, formerly of Cheyenne and Green River Wyoming, passed away November 13, 2014, from injuries sustained in a work related accident. He was born December 14, 1977, in Fredericktown, Missouri, and moved to Wyoming in 1979. He came to Cheyenne to begin his college education, which he completed at the University of Wyoming. Matt graduated from Green River High School, Class of '96. He was an avid sportsman and was involved in football, basketball, and rodeo team roping. His love of team roping took him through the university and gave him a sport for all ages. In recent years, he traded his suits for Halliburton red coveralls and followed his dad's steps through the "patch". He enjoyed the work, but more importantly the brotherhood of his beloved Alpha Crew. He is survived by his precious daughter, Huston, of Canyon, TX; the love of his life, Jennifer, of Brighton, CO; parents, Carl and Debbie Smith of Cheyenne; two brothers, Brad (Desiree) Smith of Cheyenne, and Paul (Kerryn) Vellacott of Brisbane, Australia; grandmother, Marianne Smith of Farmington, MO; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He is also survived by two nieces and five nephews who will miss their special time with "Uncle Matt". Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 18, 2014, from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Schrader Funeral Home, 2222 Russell Avenue. A memory service celebrating Matthew's life will be held on Wednesday, November 19th at 1:00 p.m. at the Lakeview Chapel at Schrader Funeral Home. An interment will be held at the Cheyenne Memorial Gardens with a reception to follow at the Schrader Reception Center. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society for Renal Cancer or Cheyenne Regional Cancer Center.
