Maxine Lanning

Maxine Luella Lanning, 98, of Cheyenne, Wyoming, died January 23, 2018, at the Cheyenne Regional Medical Center. Maxine was born October 1, 1919, in Burton, NE to Eddie LeRoy and Flora May (Trumbull) Gulick. Maxine's family moved to Banner County, NE in 1928 where she attended and graduated high school in 1937. She attended Chadron Teacher College then taught at Bellview District #1 in Banner County for two years. She married Melvin York Lanning in Kimball on June 2, 1940. They lived in Banner County until 1944 when they moved to their home in western Kimball County where they farmed until they retired in 1980. They then moved to Pine Bluffs where she lived until 2016 and then moved to Cheyenne. Melvin passed away in 1998. Melvin and Maxine enjoyed traveling and visited 48 states, Mexico and Canada, often accompanied by her parents. She was a member of the Pine Bluffs Baptist Church and taught Sunday school, led the Girls Missionary Guild, enjoyed Bible studies, and was a member of the Mission Circle. She also enjoyed being a member of the Pinochle Club for many years. She also volunteered one day a week at a local care and share store. Maxine and Melvin drove a bus and were chaperones for many years for the high school geology trip. They followed the school sports teams and always enjoyed family - Maxine was one of six girls in her family and they visited each other regularly. She also loved having her children and grandchildren visit. Maxine is survived by her son, Gene (Carol) Lanning and their children, Stewart (Dawn) of Pine Bluffs and Stacy (Todd) of Laramie, WY; daughter, Kay (Roy) Edmunds and their children, Pat (Joanne) Haefele of Wisconsin, Kelly (Jenny) Haefele of Cheyenne and Kristen (Tom) Trump of Cheyenne; sisters, Glenna Streeks of Gering, NE and Janett Connour of Cheyenne; sister-in-law, LaVetra Lanning of Pine Bluffs; and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; infant son; and sisters, Donna Olsen, Imogene Anderson and Janice Snyder. A funeral service will be conducted on Monday, January 29, 2018, at 10:00 a.m. at the Crossroads Community Church in Pine Bluffs with Pastor Dan DeBruyn officiating. An interment service will follow at the Kimball Cemetery.
