Mr. Meredith “Skeet” Weston, 83, of Cheyenne, Wyoming, passed away early Sunday morning, January 30, 2011, at the Cheyenne Regional Medical Center. Skeet was born November 4, 1927, in Newcastle, Wyoming, a son of the late Oscar and Charlotte (Drury) Heselius. Skeet enlisted in the United States Army in 1947 and following his honorable service, he attended the University of Wyoming where he earned a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in1950 and a Master’s in Education in 1954. While attending the University of Wyoming he met his wife, Dorothy “Dot” Hainworth. They were married in 1950. They moved to Rozet, Wyoming, where he was superintendent for the Rozet school system. Later they moved to Cheyenne where he worked as a principal, first for Churchill Elementary and completed his 35 year career at Pioneer Park Elementary retiring at the age of 57. He enjoyed serving as a member of the Cheyenne Shrine Club Indians, The Contestants Committee and the Heels of Cheyenne Frontier Days, Optimist Club, Toast Masters, Jaycee’s, Cheyenne Melodrama and Retired Teachers Association. He also enjoyed spending time in the outdoors at his mountain cabin, fishing and hunting. He loved to golf and especially spending time with his family and caring for his pets. Skeet is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Dorothy “Dot” Weston of Cheyenne; his son, Al Weston and wife, Rosie, of Cheyenne; his daughter, Gay Gustafson of Mesa, AZ; four grandchildren, Amanda Hendershot, Adam Gustafson, Donald Weston and Deanna Weston; five great-grandchildren, Caleb, Joshua, Joseph, Malaika and Olivia; a half-brother, Rex Heselius of Virginia; and many members of the Stevens family who cared for him when he was young. He is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Willie and Bud Heselius; and two sisters, Peg Hennington and Iris Ewing. At Skeet’s request, there will be no visitation. A memorial service will be conducted on Thursday, February 3, 2011, at 1:00 p.m. at the Schrader Chapel with The Reverend Trudy Robinson officiating. An interment service will follow at Beth El Cemetery. Following the interment service a reception celebrating his life will be at the Cheyenne Shrine Club, 224 East Iowa.
