Merl L. Boyd, 71, died at his residence in the VA CLC, Cheyenne, WY on June 20, 2020, after a long battle with cancer. He was holding hands with his sister and listening to his nephew, Alan, on the phone when he passed.
Merl was born in 1948 in Sugden, OK. to Capt. Lee R. Boyd and Gladys (Smith) Boyd. Merl attended school in Kimball, NE. and Sterling, CO.
He joined the U.S. Army in 1966 and spent one tour in Korea and two in Vietnam. Upon his discharge in 1970, he moved to Kimball, NE to live near his parents. He moved to Cheyenne, WY, after the death of his father.
Merl collected eagles in all forms, including on plaques, pictures, statues, lamps, knives, and rings. He loved re-watching the movies of his youth and he loved ordering movies on Amazon! He had a complete collection of John Wayne movies, every Hallmark Christmas movie made, and complete seasons of TV shows from the A-Team to Xena, Warrior Princess.
He was a shy, quiet, generous man who never said much. He loved his family and his many church friends. He was a member of the Church of Christ, 1022 W 17th St. and spent many hours with Jerry Smith and others in Bible study. He belonged to the VFW, DAV, and Eagles.
Merl was preceded in death by both parents, Lee R. Boyd, and Gladys (Smith) Boyd; brother, Lee R. (Butchie) Boyd Jr; two sisters, Gladys Lee Boyd and Arlene (Boyd) Koester.
He is survived by his sister, Cheryl (Donald) Trofholz, Cheyenne, WY; nieces, Sherri Goodman, Ft. Collins, CO., Jackie (Dan) Hoppes, Kimball, NE and Darla (Dave) Klinkhammer, Kimball, NE; nephews, Alan (Beth) Beadles, New Kent, VA, Donald Trofholz Jr, Cheyenne WY, 14 great nieces and nephews; and 20 great-great nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be Friday July 17, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. at Schrader, Aragon & Jacoby Funeral Home, 2222 Russell Ave., Cheyenne, WY, Jerry Smith, officiating. His urn will be interred, with military honors, at the Kimball County Cemetery, Kimball, NE at 1:00 p.m.

Cremation is under the care of Schrader, Aragon & Jacoby Funeral Home.
