Merl L. Boyd, 71, died at his residence in the VA CLC, Cheyenne, WY on June 20, 2020, after a long battle with cancer. He was holding hands with his sister and listening to his nephew, Alan, on the phone when he passed.

Merl was born in 1948 in Sugden, OK. to Capt. Lee R. Boyd and Gladys (Smith) Boyd. Merl attended school in Kimball, NE. and Sterling, CO.

He joined the U.S. Army in 1966 and spent one tour in Korea and two in Vietnam. Upon his discharge in 1970, he moved to Kimball, NE to live near his parents. He moved to Cheyenne, WY, after the death of his father.

He had a complete collection of John Wayne movies, every Hallmark Christmas movie made, and complete seasons of TV shows from the A-Team to Xena, Warrior Princess.

He was a shy, quiet, generous man who never said much. He loved his family and his many church friends. He was a member of the Church of Christ, 1022 W 17th St. and spent many hours with Jerry Smith and others in Bible study. He belonged to the VFW, DAV, and Eagles.

Merl was preceded in death by both parents, Lee R. Boyd, and Gladys (Smith) Boyd; brother, Lee R. (Butchie) Boyd Jr; two sisters, Gladys Lee Boyd and Arlene (Boyd) Koester.
