Mildred Irene (Hobbs) Badgley, 94, passed away in Cheyenne, WY, August 20, 2024 surrounded by family. She was born November 30, 1929 in Cheyenne to the late Buck and Mary Hobbs. She was married to Neal Badgley on August 5, 1950 in Pine Bluffs, WY. She was preceded in death by her husband Neal.
Mildred is survived by her sister Norma Jean Fogg of Cheyenne; daughter Caroline Poelma and husband Mike of Carpenter; son Kenneth Badgley and wife Brenda of Cheyenne; five grandchildren: Kendall (Rebecca) Badgley, Kyle (Ashley) Badgley, Patrick (Stephanie) Poelma of Tunkhannock, PA, Pamela Downing, Eric Poelma (Jessica Pastoriza); an adopted grandson Jonathan Downing; eight great grandchildren and four nieces.
In the early years Mildred attended Egbert public schools. She worked for Farmer’s State Bank in Pine Bluffs, WY for almost 50 years. Mildred was an active member of St. Paul Catholic Church in Pine Bluffs for decades, serving as a member of the CCW and helping with the yearly Fall Dinner, serving as a Eucharistic Minister, and welcoming countless new priests to the community. She also served as a Pine Bluffs Municipal Election Judge for years. Her final years were spent at Aspen Wind assisted living facility where she made countless friends with the residents and staff.
Sunday dinners are fond memories of her legendary homemade fried chicken, chocolate cake, chocolate torte, horseradish, spicy salsa, and chocolate chip cookies. Every Christmas she would spend hours making holiday cookies and candies for her friends and family. Long after she retired, Farmer’s State Bank employees, priests and church members would look forward to her chocolate chip cookies on special occasions. She was also an avid bowler and enjoyed watching her children and grandchildren participate in softball and other sports. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
At Mildred's request, a vigil with Rosary will take place Sunday, August 25th at 6pm at St. Paul Catholic Church in Pine Bluffs with graveside service on Tuesday, August 27th at 11am at the Pine Bluffs Cemetery. A reception will follow the graveside services.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Cheyenne Animal Shelter.
