Mildred Eklund

Mildred Eklund, 87, of Cheyenne died June 15, 2014 in Cheyenne. She was born August 26, 1926 in Winton, WY to Chris and Mary Kuncheff. While attending the University of Wyoming she met John Eklund and married him on June 27, 1948 in Rock Springs, WY. She graduated from Reliance High School (Wyoming) in 1944 and the University of Wyoming with a Bachelors of Arts in 1949. She returned moved to Albin and after her children were in school, she taught school in Albin for 25 years. She was raised in the Orthodox Church, and was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Wyoming Education Association and the National Education Association. She is survived by her daughter, Chris Veurink of Modesto, CA; sons, John Eklund, Jr. and his wife, Suzi of Albin, Barry Eklund and his wife, Kim of Berthoud, CO; and Val Eklund and his wife, Sherry of Albin; brother, Johnny Kuncheff of Sheridan, WY; 20 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. She was preceded by her husband, John Eklund, Sr. and her parents and a son-in-law John Veurink. Those who wish may contribute to the Albin Ambulance Fund. Visitation will be Wednesday 4:00-8:00 p.m. at Schrader Funeral Home. A graveside Services will be Thursday at 10:00 a.m. in Beth El Cemetery followed by a Celebration of Life at 11:00 a.m. at Cheyenne Evangelical Free Church. Services are under the care of Schrader Funeral Home.
